Cosimo is a short cinematic film created using generative AI tools. The project explores how communication systems have evolved across centuries — from Renaissance information networks to modern blockchain-secured transparency.
The story begins during the Siege of Siena in 1554, a moment in history when the rapid circulation of letters and avvisi (early newsletters) played a critical role in spreading political and military intelligence across Europe. These early communication networks allowed information to travel faster than ever before, helping leaders anticipate events and coordinate action.
From this historical context, the film transitions into the present day, where technology once again reshapes the way trust is built across distance. A donor supports a project in another part of the world and receives verified video updates documenting the progress of that project. Through blockchain-secured records and AI-generated communication tools, every milestone becomes visible and traceable.
The project explores a simple idea: while the tools of communication evolve, the fundamental principle remains the same — trust depends on the ability to share reliable information across distance.
Visually, the film blends historical reconstruction with contemporary documentary aesthetics. Renaissance environments such as print workshops, sealed letters, and wartime communications are contrasted with modern scenes of digital connectivity and real-world development projects.
The film was produced using a generative AI workflow combining image generation, video synthesis, and cinematic editing tools, including MidJourney and Kling.
Prompt engineering and iterative visual development were used to maintain historical authenticity while creating a coherent cinematic narrative.
Cosimo ultimately reflects on the enduring role of communication as a bridge between intention and impact — connecting generosity, accountability, and transformation across time and geography.
